Wicked sense of humor

Got this response from a friend. Wicked sense of humor.

MisEducation Part I

I believe one should be allowed to learn what he or she wants to learn.

Sadly, I think this is somehow not happening in Singapore. In NUS.

I feel we are slowly losing the freedom to learn what we wana learn.

A simple msn chat with my friend Miss-brother-seller has inspired me to digress on this. She has indicated that she couldn't get to read a particular elective as she has insufficient points to bid for that elective. Apparently, that elective is very popular among students.

What!!!The balloting system has now evolved to be a "points bidding system"?? Does that reminds you about the bidding of COE!!!! Good Grief... What are we talking now .. EDUCATION or BUSINESS or GAMBLING....

To begin this post, I would like to talk about the widely used balloting system.

I believe students in Singapore are somehow familiar with the balloting system. Macroscopically, the balloting system is widely employed across the primary, secondary and junior colleges to limit the size student’s intake for any particular institution.

Microscopically, it is used within the institution to control the number of students allocated to a particular course. This is evident in NUS. Final year project balloting, electives balloting... the list goes on.... Yes, we may feel that we have the "FREEDOM" to choose, but we may not get what we want to study. More often that not, you will hear " too bad lor, no luck"

Come on... what are we talking about here?

Luck?... Its like placing bets on lottery....

Come on... Is this what we wanted to inculcate among the students.

"Oh...Too bad if u cannot get to learn what u wana learn... that's life....Try again next semester" RESIGNATION TO FATE? Is NUS trying to educate the students to resign to fate.

"Take it or leave it" Is NUS trying to teach us the harsh reality of the society?

Now, listen... we, students should have the freedom and rights to learn what we want. We are the customers, aren't we? Our parents are diligent taxpayers, aren't they? Is this what we are getting from our university?

I must admit that we need a certain level of control to maintain order but not to the extent of snatching the basic freedom to learn what we want.

I'm wondering whether I will be jailed by saying this................................

Don’t waste your food.

I believe there are some of us who like to order lotsa food and they knew that they simply cannot finish them. Most of them coincidentally are species termed as girlfriends.

Cheesecake from Hilton; Tiramisu from Pan-Pacific hotel; durian puffs from Good Wood Park Hotel; beef kway tiao from geylang; laksa from katong; Chah kway tiao from Ghim Moh; ……… if u can place all these together on a table where they can get to sample a little of everything, they will be thrilled!

A non food waster like me will either keep all these in the fridge or attempt to eat everything (like rehearsing for a all-you-can-eat contest).

I remembered I had been challenged on this food wastage issue some many years ago.

Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: B, u don’t have to finish everything, just take what u like and dump the rest.
Souplad : It will be such a waste to dump these. It is not a nice thing to do to those great chefs that created all these delicacies. (I kinda understand, cos I believe I can cook well)
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: Come on, it will cost u more if u keep them or eat them. And do u think they care? By the way, I am very happy, that’s enough.
Souplad: Hmm…..
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: See, if u decide to pack all these, u gonna incur more cost. U will need to store them. Your fridge will work extra hard. You may need to microwave or bake to warm them again ….all these are additional cost that will be incurred!
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: And if u get sick after eating too much, u will feel uncomfortable and need to see a doctor.
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: See it makes sense to simply just dump them, and by the way they are biodegradable, so u don’t really have to worry that it will remain in the landfill for god-knows how long.
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: And do u think the chef give a damn to your appreciation and how are u gonna eat their products? Do u think SONY cares what kinda TV programs u gonna watch. The answer is NO.
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan: So, just finish what u like and dump the rest. It make sense. And by the way, u need to cut down some weight.
Miss My-Way-and-now-Mrs-Tan:Let’s make some coffee.
Souplad proceed to finish all the food.

Souplad, Mr and Mrs Tan laughed to our hearts content.

It was a nice Christmas morning in Shanghai.

FAT HOBBIT

It’s nice to see friends visiting u when u are alone working in a foreign land for an extended period of time. For the past couple of weeks, I caught up with some of my college mates. Sometimes, I think it’s kinda ironical since I barely meet up with them in Singapore.

This somehow reminds me of my platoon mate whom I have promised to keep in contact after we have completed our national service.

We never meet for almost 7 years until we ran into each other in Cambodia 5 years ago. For some weird reasons, I find this creepy….

Anyway, I admit I had enjoyed a great deal chatting and fooling around with my friends. Most of the time, at my expense. I just got a nickname… FAT HOBBIT. Just because I used to be addressed as Sam . Just because we were watching LOTR. Just because my friend has an evil sense of humor. Stupid flu-spreading pig.

Maybe I should ask Souplad to fuck off. Fat Hobbit sounds better.
